History
For the girls' classes in physical education in 1933, the College constructed a new athletic field near the old farm north of College Hall and the east-west campus drive. The ground was graded, leveled and improved. The new facility was large enough to accommodate a soccer field 120 yards by 70 yards. It could also be used for baseball, field hockey, and track.
As the college grew over the decades, this space became enclosed by Evans Hall and the Russell Fine Arts Center to the west; the Day Armory to the north and the Student Union to the east (later consolidated into the Garrison Center); and McBrien Hall to the south.
