Henderson Beauties
Some years, instead of the student body voting directly on titles like Most Popular and Best Athlete, the Star would feature a beauty contest. It began with "ladies selected by the students of Henderson-Brown as most worthy to represent the College in the realms of beauty." Later, the editors sent out photos to a neutral third party for selection. Over the years these judges ranged from the Art Department at the University of Arkansas to local and national business leaders, and eventually even popular entertainers of the day. Yearbooks in the 1940s and 1950s would often feature a photo of the judging in progress.
