History
A ceremony was held on October 22nd, 2011 at Henderson's Education Center to dedicate the Davis-Baker Preschool. Formerly known as the Child Service Center, the new preschool was renamed in honor of Dr. Pam Davis and Beverly Baker. Davis was director of the center for 40 years before her retirement in 2011. Baker was a longtime program supervisor.
Although the sign outside the building says "Established 1934", it was not always in this location. The foundation of what later became Proctor Hall housed a "nursery school" prior to that building's construction in 1938. The Child Service Center building fit like a Tetris piece along the east and north sides of Proctor Hall from 1971-2001. The first and secondHaygood Gymnasiums were on the current site of the Preschool from 1935 to 2001. Further research is needed to determine the sites(s) of the child care center before 1970.
