History

After Womack Hall became the Administration Building and major campus centers had shifted to the north, the University established the front entrance on North Tenth Street at Presidents' Drive. The old sign and shrubbery were removed from the triangular plot formed by the north and south entrances, and ca. 1976 the drive was accented by a fountain circled with a pool enclosure of red brick that was about 24 inches high, 12 inches wide, and 20 feet in diameter. On the Tenth-Street side of the red brick enclosure were the words HENDERSON STATE UNIVERSITY in ten-inch gray block letters. Pavement of red brick formed the approach to the fountain. The fountain is traditionally guarded overnight during the week of the Battle of the Ravine by members the band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi to deter would-be pranksters from Ouachta Baptist University.
