History
In the 1940s and 50s, Henderson began planning its first construction of housing for the faculty. In 1946, at a cost of $25,000, the College built three duplexes to the north of Huddleston Street to rent to faculty members. These duplexes were constructed of concrete blocks and painted white; they had steel casement windows, two small concrete porches, and hardwood floors. Each apartment consisted of living and dining area, kitchen furniture with range and refrigerator, bedroom, bath, and three closets. By 1960, only “Duplex Apartment #3” was still standing of the original three. In 1955, the College expanded the housing with ten new brick houses. As of 2022, a student apartment complex occupies the entire site of what was once called Faculty Place or Faculty Row.
