History
In January, 1955, the College completed the construction of ten brick houses to rent to faculty in addition to the three duplexes built in 1943. On April 29, 1954, the Board awarded construction contracts for the ten houses for a total cost of $146,000. Erected on a site near the tennis courts and west of the dormitory then under construction, the ten houses were attractively situated on a circular drive north of Huddleston Street. Five of the houses contained two bedrooms; five, three bedrooms. Some were built of buff brick; some, pink; and some, red. All had central heating, an attic fan, and a carport. On October 7, 1955, the Board of Trustees named the area Faculty Place. In 1980, the ten houses were still being occupied by faculty members; but the three duplexes on the site had been razed earlier. As of 2022, a student apartment complex occupies the entire site.
