History
The original or "old" athletic field was the site of Henderson's earliest football and baseball games. According to the 1906 yearbook, "Our three-acre Athletic Field, which is but a short distance from the College, is a big inducement to the members of the Base Ball team. During the year 1905 we were not favored with such a field. [...] A grand-stand with seating capacity of two hundred has been recently constructed for the comfort of those attending the games."
Play moved to the "new" Haygood Field when the College purcased the land from Mrs. Barkman in 1919. Haygood Field is now the site of Newberry Hall
