History
In 1902, after several campaigns for a sidewalk from the front entrance to the local Methodist Church, the College finally succeeded in having the walk constructed at a cost of $2,000. The walk followed this route: south from the College to Pine Street; then east on Pine to A. M. Crow's corner, now Eighth and Pine; then south to the Church on North, now Eighth, and Caddo Streets. The sidewalk covered a distance of about eight blocks. Rev. J. S. Hawkins sponsored the campaign for funds, aided by Rev. W. F. Evans, Wirth Evans, R.B. Thomas, and others who made liberal donations.
