History
Though agreeing on March 7, 1922, to the construction of a $4,000 bungalow for a President's home, the Trustees decided instead, on June 2, 1922, to purchase “the property adjacent to the College Campus, belonging to Mrs. Cheatham”. More precisely, the property, “87 1/2 feet squarely off the West side of Lot 29 and 10 feet off the East side of Lot 30 in Hardy and Barkman's Addition to the City of Arkadelphia”, joined the lot on which the Alumni Building foundation awaited completion. On the property was a two-story frame house, to which the Board agreed to make necessary repairs for occupancy by President Workman and his family in the summer of 1922. On August 4, 1922, Mrs. Lula C. Cheatham sold the property to H.B.C. for $4,000, with $1,000 down; $1,000 due on November 1, 1922; and $2,000 due on January 1, 1923, at 6% interest. Mrs. Cheatham signed the release deed on May 16, over a year past the due date.
In 1936, the college razed the structure in order to build a new President's Home on the site.
