History

On September 12, 2025, Henderson announced the development of the Georgia-Pacific Reddie Recreation Complex, made possible by a generous $100,000 commitment from Georgia-Pacific in support of the university’s new intramural field project. According to chancellor Berry, "The project will transform an underutilized area of campus into a vibrant hub for student life."

Plans include the installation of natural turf fields for football, soccer, and softball, repurposing an existing parking lot into a pickleball playing surface, and adding a gated entrance to improve accessibility and security. The new recreation complex will provide a versatile space for intramural sports, student activities, community events, and a practice field for the Showband of Arkansas.

Space for the new recreation complex was made by razing the Meier House, the Edwards House, the Jane Ross Poolhouse, the Hunneycutt House, and the wooded area between Henderson Street and Haddock Street.
