Bean Club

Note

According to an Appreciation from President Workman in 1919, “No finer group of students can be found in Henderson-Brown College than the girls of the Bean Club. While Mr. Hoover was calling on us to hold down Mr. High-Cost-of-Living, our butterbeans were wasting in the field. For love or money it was impossible to get labor to pick them. But as in many instances of history the young women came to the rescue. They voluntarily offered to pick the beans. The beans were gathered, Mr. Hoover was satisfied, the S.A.T.C. boys were fed, the war was won, and the Bean Club put it over. All honor to them. They did their bit.”
